Comedian and actress Leslie Jones has a message for her Twitter trolls: Hate speech and freedom of speech are two different things.

“What scared me was the injustice of a gang of people jumping against you for such a sick cause,” Jones told Seth Meyers on his late night talk show on Thursday night.

“Everybody has an opinion and it all comes at you at one time,” she added.

Jones, who is starring in the film “Ghostbusters,” garnered a lot of media attention this week after she spoke out about the online harassment she was dealing with on Twitter.

Responding to the complaints, Twitter later banned conservative writer Milo Yiannopoulos from its site after he was accused of leading the online hate campaign against Jones. Yiannopoulos later said in interviews that “Twitter has just died as a free speech platform.”

While this isn’t the first time that a celebrity has spoken out about about online harassment, social media companies like Twitter have been facing pressure to do more to address this issue. Jones told Meyers that when she contacted Facebook the company was “on it” but that she had to push Twitter to respond.

Jones also clarified that she didn’t leave Twitter permanently, but just signed out to deal with the harassment. She even met Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey afterward.

“He was cool. They helped me out. We got like a whole bunch of accounts, you known, taken off of Twitter,” she said.
